Spark! Pro series – 23rd May 2022 Spiceworks OriginalsĬoffee and read on! To start things off… A Monday Quotes Top 10.Ģ.If you delete something it will be deleted at the remote site as well (so I suggest going with a backup). This sounds good BUT remember it is replicating changes. This will be like any other backup, it will run at a set schedule OR you can do a Shared Folder Sync which will replicate the changes over the network as they are made at set intervals or even immediately. You will probably get a message saying that the Network Service isn't enabled, click on "Back Up Services" then enable Network Backup (on the destination unit).įrom there you have a few choices you can either create a "backup task" with the remote Synology as the destination. You will then go in to the Backup & Replication Application and Create a Backup Destination which will be the remote Synology and provide your user name / password. Once you setup you Quick Connect Accounts you will need to have a User Name / Passdown (they don't have to be the same) on each of the Disk Stations that have permission to do a backup. Sorry I accidentally posted that without finishing. So lets say for an example you are trying to back up 500gb of data at 10mb / sec of upload speed that will take 128 HOURS (5.3 Days)!!!

Keep in mind that most people have very fast download speeds but their upload speeds are usually 1/10th of the download speed. This might be a good way to go but it would still depend on how much you are backing up / bandwidth you have. You can however "Seed" the backup initially then only upload the changes. This is certainly doable but depending on your network setup / bandwidth this might end up being painfully slow not to mention choke your Internet Connections while performing the backup.

I believe when using the Quick Connect IDs your traffic is going through the Synology Servers. Next question is how fast are your Internet Connections? How much data are you talking about that you want / need to back up over the Internet?ĭo you have a VPN Connection between your house / work location? This would be ideal as you could take the Sybology Servers out of the mix. This setup will work but it will more than likely be very slow.

wc_apbct_email_id.You said you have set up the cloud part of it which means you've gone in and setup both of your Synology Disk Stations with Cloud Names (Quick Connect IDs) through the My Synology Website (or through the Disk Station Software itself)? If you go in to the My Synology Website are your Disk Stations listed there?Īssuming you have then can you see / access / log in to the remote Synology when you are other location? (When at home can you log on to the work one)? Format("embedded-opentype"),url("") format("woff"),url("") format("truetype"),url("") format("svg") font-weight:400 font-style:normal font-display:block}
